Helen took up ballroom and latin dancing at the age of twelve entering medalist events and later competing on the open circuit as an amateur. Following her competitive career, which saw her represent her country abroad, she turned her attention to teaching and adjudicating.

Helen turned professional in 1984, qualifying with the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) in both Latin American and Ballroom Dance, establishing the Young School of Dance.

Helen was elected Treasurer to the Welsh Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing in 1984, a position she still holds today. Helen held the post of Finance Director at Fitness Wales (governing body for fitness in Wales) 2000-2010.

Helen is also a REPS (Register of Exercise Professionals) Level 3 instructor. She teaches classes in aerobics and associated fitness for all age ranges, including Pilates, Ante/Post natal and Aqua.
